Chicha is an Andean/Incan hooch made from fermented corn. It comes in various types. I tried plain Chicha (cream coloured), Chicha Morada (purple as it uses purple corn) and I didn’t try, because it was out of season Frutillada where they add strawberries.
I have to admit I found it a little bland and it tastes like it sounds. It has the taste and consistency of purified corn, but none of the sweetness you might associate with corn which is because all of the sugar turns to alcohol. It generally carries around a 4% alcohol level. It seems to be very popular with barrows selling it in its variations located all over.
